Roman Stone

Here are some coins I have acquired in Rome, along with miscellaneous interesting photographs from a Japanese book from 1968 about Rome, Florence, and other Italian cities that I purchased here for 3€.  I hope you enjoy!

I walk along this wall and see this view every day on the way to school.

Torre dell’Orologio or St. Mark’s Clocktower is a product from the early Renaissance in Venice.  On day of Epiphany (January 6) and Ascension Day (40 days after Easter), there is a procession of the three Magi.  On the clock face, the 24 hours of the day are carved in Roman numerals into the marble.  The sun rotates to indicate which hour of the day it is.  The zodiac signs date back to the 1490s and revolve slightly slower that the sun to show what sign of the zodiac the sun is in.  The earth is in the center of the clock face.  The moon rotates to display its phases and is surrounded by fixed stars.
